Sanjaya Mania is alive! Sanjaya Malakar, the teen sensation who proved to be a show-stopper last week on American Idol when he performed in a Mohawk, will stay on Idol for at least another week after Gina Glocksen, 22, was booted off last night's show. A huge grassroots campaign is gaining momentum to keep Sanjaya on the show, including hypocritical support from radio shock jock Howard Stern and the "votefortheworst" website.
Glocksen's boot leaves 8 remaining contestants battling for the "Idol" title, including Sanjaya, 17, who's inspired both admiration and derision among Idol fans for his questionable singing chops.
But the votes for the Indian-American teen are not the result of what talk jock Stern - who wants to "destroy the integrity" of American Idol (what integrity?) and thinks he's the cause of people voting for Sanjaya - is doing. Stern’s audience on pay radio is severely limited. No, love him or hate him, Sanjaya is nabbing the votes of millions of tweens and teens and he is this year's American Idol. If last year's Idol Taylor Hicks can win over the popular and more talented Chris Daughtry and Katharine McPhee, who are outselling him for albums and performances - how far can Sanjaya go?
Comments
You really, really need to get your facts straight before you make remarks such as Katharine McPhee outselling Taylor Hicks for "albums and performances". TO DATE McPhee has sold a TOTAL OF 279,000 albums - barely HALF the number of albums sold by Hicks (664,000). In fact, McPhee has yet to reach the number of Hicks' first week sales alone.
Hicks is selling out his concerts and getting very positive reviews from the media. His venues are averaging at least twice the size of Daughtry's venues.

Right on Saundra. These kind of negative Taylor bashings is exactly one of the reasons people automatically think that he is a wash-out. Taylor made the show last year. Chris will burn out shortly and Kat will never have a successful tour like Taylor.
I doubt if half of these bloggers even gave Taylor a listen or even attended one of his SOLD-OUT concerts. If they did, they would eat their words.

There's something crazy likeable about Sanjaya... I like the desi boys.

Howard Stern is crap. Kids are voting like 100 times for Sanjaya because they LIKE him, not because Stern is telling his adult listeners to do it. He thinks he's doing harm to Idol by encouraging people to vote for the kid. If Stern listeners really have time to sit around a vote over and over again for someone they don't like, then need to get a life!!
