Most of the Amazing Race All Star teams ended up stranded at the Johannesburg South Africa airport for nearly two days while trying to get a fight to Zanzibar in a weird twist where Charla and Mirna (Do you speak Spanglish?) ended up almost a day ahead of everyone else. At the back of the pack, three teams were frustrated to be in last place but they had no choice since their flights left hours (make that days) later than the front runners.
Team Shmirna jumped out to such a huge lead when they were the only team to leave ahead of everyone else that the rest of the leg of the race was mostly uneventful.
Once the teams finally got to the first detour, most teams chose to solve the puzzle rather than shlep tree trunks to a lumber yard, which for some odd reason, the ditzy blondes chose to do instead of using their brains. At the road block, one team member had to use a hammer kind of weapon and toss it at a target. Then they danced with joy with some leapin' Maasai tribesmen when they finally broke the target with the face painted on it.
MOST ANNOYING RACER EVER? Mirna continues to adopt a ridiculous fake accent when speaking English to an English-speaking citizen of another country. Her fake accent in Africa sounded vaguely Italian. That plus her groveling and begging at EVERY check-in counter, at EVERY airport around the world is embarrassing. It's bad enough she is condescending towards her dwarf cousin but it's especially bad when she does it to every taxi driver and clerk she encounters.
Eric and Danielle were flying standby, and were bumped off the plane at the last minute (hey, it happens), but Danielle got really cranky and broke down crying and whining and carrying on when the plane left without them. But that's the least of her problems: when is she going to wake up and realise what a jerk Eric is?
Joyce and Uchenna, and Oswald and Danny are still chillin' and taking the race at it comes and loving every minute of it. Good times, good times. It didn't bother Oswald and Danny a bit that they stopped for fruit just before the pit stop and lost the lead to Shmirna.
It was really funny when Phil told Shmirna what the first-place prize was: a 12 foot catamaran sailboat - EACH! The look on their faces was priceless. Charla even had to ask "What's a catamaran?" Talk about showing disappointment! Not as funny as Oswald chasing Phil to hug him last week, but close 'nuff.
Joe and Bill just beat out Teri and Ian at the finish, and sadly, the older couple were eliminate. Both these teams really had no chance after they got stuck at the airports trying to fly standby to get to their next destination and stay in the race.
