Mel Gibson launched into an angry attack Thursday night at Cal State University at Northridge when a woman in an audience accused him of insensitivity in portraying Mayans in his last film "Apocalypto".
Witnesses told the website TMZ that when Professor Alicia Estrada pressed the director about his inaccurate depiction of Mayan sacrifices, Gibson responded, "Lady, f**k off."
Estrada is the assistant professor of Central American Studies at the university who took issue with Gibson's portrayal that the ancient Mayan had human sacrifice and such.
"(Estrada) was questioning the sources of the movie and he was really upset and using profanities," Douglass Carranza, a professor who attended the event, told The ShowBuzz on Friday.
The actor's rep tells TMZ, "This person was a heckler who was rude and disrupted the event, so much so that the event organizers had to escort her out."
Representatives from the Mayan community were also escorted out of the session for protesting. Gibson allegedly yelled after them, "Make your own movie!"
Gibson's publicist, Howard Rubenstein, later told TMZ: "He needs more anger management. It's time to be cool."
