In Touch magazine reports Lily Rose's illness was caused by a rusty tack.
It said: "The wound was left untreated" and "blood poisoning developed. It has now spread through her body and has affected her vital organs."
Depp, who is in the UK filming the movie adaptation of Sweeney Todd, is said to have not left Lily's bedside since she was admitted to hospital on February 28.
