The movie isn't set to be released for another three months but Warner Bros studios must be so blown away by the work of lead actress Emma Roberts in the new "Nancy Drew" film that they are already planning the sequel.
Which means that the just-turned-16 Emma might eventually grow into the part of the sophisticated mature 18-year-old adult sleuth she's supposed to be.
But it looks like Hollywood wants to make Nancy Drew into something new and different. If you loved the books you probably disliked the trailer which doesn't have the tone or feel of the books at all.
For one thing, Emma looks 12 -- more a tweener detective that an adult Nancy with the boyfriend away at college. In the film, young Nancy and her father go to Los Angeles where she's the new geek girl at school but of course becomes way cool, and she also gets busy solving that murder mystery revolving around a dead movie star.
Emma, the daughter of Eric Roberts and niece of Julia Roberts, has been a controversial choice for the role among die-hard Nancy fans, but the "Unfabulous" singer/actress says she hopes the big screen Nancy Drew films become a franchise for her. It sounds like the studio has the same wish.
