Hip hop superstar Eminem was almost not signed after Dr Dre's associates tried to talk the NWA star out of working with the rapper because he was white, a new book claims.
In an unofficial new book, Dr Dre: The Biography, Ronin Ro writes Dre auditioned songs he worked on with Eminem for black employees, leaving them puzzled as to why he'd sign a white rapper. The label's general manager also tried to talk Dre out of signing Em, saying: "Look, this guy is blond with blue eyes. What are you doing?' "
But they couldn't change Dre's mind, with him signing the rapper because "he felt Eminem had talent."
However a representative for Dre has blasted the claims, blasting the book as "an uninformed, speculative piece of nonsense".
