Stars including Christian Slater, Helena Bonham Carter and Bob Geldof watched Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe make his West End debut in the play 'Equus' last night.
17-year-old Daniel wowed critics for his first grown up role as troubled stable boy Alan Strang in the play. His role has attracted controversy as the former child star gets naked, simulates sex and smokes a cigarette.
Radcliffe says he took the role "to shake up people's perception of me".
Among the comments Daniel attracted for his role on the opening night, included:
"Brilliant Radcliffe throws off Harry Potter's cloak…He is a thrilling stage actor of unexpected range and depth," from ‘The Daily Telegraph’ newspaper.
And: "What was striking was the emergence of young Dan Radcliffe in the artistic raw, tested as an actor and found equal to the stretching role," from ‘The Daily Mail’.
