‘Ugly Betty’ actress America Ferrera says she started acting as a child as an escape route from her parents’ arguing.
"I'd spend hours in my room blocking out my parents' screams by acting out plays in my head. Acting was all I ever wanted to do," the 22-year-old says.
Although she found fame as frumpy Betty, America says she never thought she’d make it as an actress, fearing she wasn’t attractive enough.
"I'd look in the mirror and cry thinking I was too fat. But today I feel beautiful and far from the ugly duckling I appear on screen."
