Jessica Simpson went on stage in front of a dazzling group of legendary performers at the Kennedy Center Honors Sunday night and proved that she's not the only airhead Simpson who can't perform live without lip-synching or forgetting the lyrics.
Chestica froze up while trying to sing the hit song "9 to 5" as part of a tribute to honoree Dolly Parton. She flubbed the lyrics - despite having cue cards - then quickly left to the stage to no applause.
Jessica was in tears when she had to return to the stage at the end to appear with other singers.
We won't see it on broadcast TV - Access Hollywood has learned the footage will not air during the televised special, which will air on CBS later this month.
Whatever happened to memorizing the freakin' song? If you're going to sing at the Kennedy Center for President Bush, honorees Dolly Parton, Zubin Mehta, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Smokey Robinson and Stephen Spielberg, a theater full of celebrities and Washington power people, and it's being taped for a national TV broadcast - wouldn't you want to ... I dunno ... REHEARSE the song?
