Jennifer Lopez is denying recent reports that her new friendship with Tom Cruise is proof of a burgeoning interest in his Scientology religion.
Insiders were snitching to the New York Post that the Catholic Lopez was thinking of converting to Scientology by way of the guiding hand of her close friend Leah Remini of "The King Of Queens", a devout Scientologist, while Jim Carrey is allegedly taking introductory courses in the religion.
The media were stunned last month when Cruise and new wife Katie Holmes invited Lopez and her very religious husband Marc Anthony, who attends daily Mass, along with Carrey and his girlfriend Jenny McCarthy to their Italian wedding - because the cruiser had never been known to socialize with the quartet.
In the past two weeks, Cruise and Holmes have socialized with Lopez and Anthony on at least three occasions.
Despite the couples' new friendships with the Cruises, their representatives insist Scientology isn't their common interest. Lopez's spokesperson says, "I have no knowledge of this, but I probably wouldn't have a comment on it if I did."
Carrey's publicist: "He is not taking classes."
