Harry Potter's alter-ego Daniel Radcliffe told an Australian TV news and talk program interviewer that he does not follow any particular religion. “My mum was of Jewish blood and my dad was Protestant,” said the 17-year-old actor.
"So I grew up in a very...[pause]... I’m very interested in religion as something to study. But I’m not a religious person in the slightest."
Dan is the only child of Alan Radcliffe, a literary agent, and Marcia Gresham, a casting agent.
Asked by the interviewer if playing Harry Potter turned him over to the dark side, Radcliffe laughed. "I don’t think I’m a sinner, I don’t think I’ll be condemned."
The interview, which runs about five minutes, can be seen on Youtube.
Meanwhile, the 17-year-old heartthrob has just appeared as the youngest person on this year's London Sunday Times British rich list with a £14 million (US$27 million) fortune.
