Cameron Diaz has called the size zero trend ‘tragic’ and ‘sad’.
The ‘There’s Something About Mary’ star says the fashion and movie industries should be careful not to make young girls think they have to be super-skinny.
"I think it's terrifying, it’s tragic and sad. I think that it’s a sickness, something that’s going on in someone’s head where their perspective is off," she said on UK chat show 'Parkinson'.
"It's difficult, I think that we certainly get ideals from images that we see and there certainly should be more responsibility put on those people who are putting those images out into the world. Let's be a little bit more responsible to what’s realistic."
She added that although she’s skinny herself, it’s not through choice.
"I'm a skinny girl so all my life all I have ever wanted to be is curvaceous and voluptuous, you know? Have everything falling out everywhere! It doesn't work for me - I aspire to do that so I personally don’t understand it either. Some people just, you know, their perception and their perspective is completely askew."
