Observing that "the kid is a natural" Wolfgang Van Halen, 15, has joined with daddy Eddie in Van Halen as the new bass player, a spokesperson told Billboard.com. The band is still without a lead singer, despite rumors that David Lee Roth might rejoin them after all these years. With bassist Michael Anthony gone, father, son and drummer uncle Alex will hit the road sometime next year.
But will Roth be back? The sometime radio DJ and paramedic told Billboard.com in May that he saw it inevitability that he would rejoin Van Halen as their lead singer: "To me, it's not rocket surgery. It's very simple to put together. And as far as hurt feelings and water under the dam, like what's-her-name says to what's-her-name at the end of the movie 'Chicago' -- 'So what? It's showbiz!' So I definitely see it happening."
Eddie and actress Valerie Bertinelli have been separated for five years and they filed for divorce last December, but the guitarist will have custody of the 15-year-old when he takes him out on the road.
As for the musical talents of Wolfie, Eddie told radio shock jock Howard Stern in September, "If I excel at the speed of sound, he excels at the speed of light. This kid is just a natural."
