The story behind the story about the Ryan Phillippe - Reese Witherspoon break up is that Ryan cheated on Reese. With Abbie Cornish. Who looks sort of like Reese. As does his other blonde girlfriend(s). What was he thinking?
But Abbie says she is not the cause of the marriage ending and that she wasn't having an affair with Ryan, even if she was spotted tongue kissing him at that sushi bar in Texas.
Us Weekly magazine is reporting that Ryan and Abbie were seen canoodling at the Texas eatery where they were filming “Stop Loss”: “Ryan did not go out of his way to hide the fact that he was having a fling with his co-star Abbie Cornish. Besides the fact they were spotted making out in a sushi restaurant together, she was spotted many times leaving his loft apartment.”
It wasn't until the "Flags of Our Fathers" premiere in New York that Reese found saucy e-mails from the Aussie actress on her husband's BlackBerry and confronted him.
“Ryan admitted it was true and said, ‘We just need to end this,’ ” a US Weekly source said. “Reese literally had no choice.”
Ryan went off to Morocco to finish filming "Stop Loss" and hoped Reese would cool off while he was gone.
But when he got home in late October, Reese kicked him out. Before announcing the split, Reese contacted Los Angeles celebrity divorce attorney Robert Kaufman, who has represented Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Marie Presley.

Actually, there's no proof that Ryan did anything with anyone.
Read the stories and they all cite the same US Weekly story, which quotes just one "Austin local," some woman who claims they made out in a restaurant. And Ryan's denied that he ever did anything, especially in that restaurant. And so has she. And the same US weekly story that started all this then turns around and quotes a waiter there who said they did no such thing, that there was no making out.
Bottom line is, it's always tough to keep a marriage together, particularly when you marry young, according to the stats on divorce. And when you have two kids and two demanding, high-pressure careers, it's even tougher. Add in the brutal spotlight of fame, and it's amazing they lasted as long as they did. They've talked about their challenges as a couple for years now, and I think it just finally all added up. Remember, it takes two people to make a marriage, and they both bring strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes, things don't work out.
