Sacha Baron Cohen’s controversial movie ‘Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan’ could be banned in Russia, after a Government agency says it won’t give its permission for the comedy to be screened in the country.
The film could offend viewers and contains scenes which "might seem disparaging in relation to certain ethnic groups and religions," The Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography believes, says Vadim Ivanov, theatrical sales director at Twentieth Century Fox C.I.S, says.
He adds he hopes the agency will change its mind and that the movie is set to premiere in Russia on November 30.
Ivanov also said he is unaware of a case in which Russian authorities have been a movie which isn’t pornographic.
‘Borat…’ was the top movie in the United States in its oepning weekend, after pulling in $26.5 million.
