US hip hop star Cassidy is in intensive care after his skull was fractured in a car crash in New York. Doctors do not believe the rapper’s injuries are life threatening.
Cassidy, whose real name is Barry Reese, was injured when his car collided with a truck near a recording studio.
Swizz Beatz, Cassidy’s friend and producer, says: "I'm not trying to get too excited about the situation and I want to stay focused and be able to keep everybody else focused and calm."
Cassidy had just finished a new album, Swizz Beatz says.
A performance with Jennifer Lopez scheduled for December will no longer take place, Cassidy’s spokesperson says.
Cassidy previously served eight months in jail for involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault.
He was convicted after a man was shot dead behind his Philly house.
The judge at the trial said Cassidy had been grossly negligent for supplying guns that killed Desmond Hawkins.
