Michael J Fox, who suffers from Parkinson’s Disease, is appearing in an emotional advertisement backing US Congressional candidates who support stem cell research.
In the ad, Michael is shown rocking uncontrollably, one of the effects of his condition. He has also appeared at a rally to support the Democrats.
Scientists hope stem cell research could held cure illnesses like Parkinson’s and diabetes, but the research is controversial as it involves testing on human embryos.
George W Bush, the Catholic Church and anti-abortionists are among the opponents of the research.
Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1991 and publicly revealed he had the condition in 1998.
He was forced to quit full-time acting in 2000 because of his symptoms and founded the Michael J Fox Foundation, which has raised millions of dollars for research into a cure.
