He's not an AIDS baby and he's not even an orphan, so why is Madonna adopting a one-year-old Malawi tot? Why not one of the older kids she visited with at the orphanage?
The boy, David Banda, has a biological father and a grandmother who love him, but they are poor and could not afford to feed him, so they placed him in the orphanage. Guess what Madonna could have offered to do instead of taking him away from his family and village?
Although Madonna and her reps are not talking, the boy's father says it happened as did a government official and a judge. The child's father said, "I'm very happy. As you can see there is poverty in my village. I know (David) will be very happy in America."
Okay, shouldn't someone tell this poor father what country Guy and Madonna are taking his son to?
Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, but instead of helping with money and projects, the mega-rich rock star choses to take a cute little healthy baby. The only people who saw money transacted here were likely government workers, otherwise, how else did Madonna and Guy get to bypass strict Malawian laws that state nobody can adopt until they have fostered a child for two years while living in the country?
Aid workers and international adoption agency are openly criticizing the Material Girl's adoption claiming that it undermines efforts to keep children within communities. They argue more help should be directed towards helping extended families care for the orphans.
