Madonna has followed in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and adopted a one-year-old child in Malawi, the boy’s father has revealed.
Rumours that the pop superstar was planning to adopt started buzzing after she flew into the country and visited several orphanages, but the singer’s publicist initially denied the reports.
"I am the father of David, who has been adopted,” Yohane Banda says.
"I am very, very happy because as you can see there is poverty in this village and I know he will be very well looked after in America."
Madonna had said the reason for her visit to the region with husband Guy Richie was to join the fight against poverty, HIV and AIDS.
A government official in Malawi had claimed the star was due to file for adoption papers on arriving in the country last week.
Madonna, who is 48, already has two children, five-year-old son Rocco and nine-year-old daughter Lourdes.
