Rapper Ludacris scored his third No. 1 on the U.S. pop album charts Wednesday, while Janet Jackson's new release opened with her lowest numbers in almost a decade, Billboard reported. "Release Therapy", put out by Def Jam, sold 309,000 copies in the week ended October 1. It also knocked out Justin Timberlake from the top spot, whose 'FutureSex/LoveSounds,' dropped to No. 5.
Ludacris, the Disturbing Tha Peace label head, says, "To me, part of being a complex person is a balance of many things. On this record I talk about striving, silliness, sadness, sex, and salvation amongst other things."
"I'm not knocking anybody's hustle, but many rappers only talk about one side of their lives. Personally, I'm trying to be a more three-dimensional storyteller and I hope that comes through on the record."
Janet Jackson's "20 Y.O." entered at No. 2 with 296,000 copies, which is actually her smallest debut sales week since "The Velvet Rope" started at No. 1 with 202,000 in 1997.
