Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson’s new film, ‘The Departed’, has debuted as the weekend’s top movie after raking in $27 million.
The mob movie, which was directed by Martin Scorsese, managed to beat horror prequel ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning’ into second place, with crazy killer Leatherface and his freaky family only managing to pull in $19.15 million.
"I think the cast was the deciding factor and the playability of the movie," a Warner Bros spokesperson says of ‘The Departed’s success.
"We had a special film here. We had the cast to drive it that way, and it worked out well," he added.
Last weekend’s top movie, ‘Open Season’, fell to number three after taking $16 million.
While Jessica Simpson’s new movie, ‘Employee of the Month’, only managed to scrape into fourth place with $11.8 million.
