Controversial blond Bond Daniel Craig was the first choice to play the super spy in 'Casino Royale'. The movie’s director has revealed Ewan McGregor was the man he wanted.
Martin Campbell says Daniel only scooped the role when Ewan turned it down.
"I think he got another job or decided he didn't want it," Martin told British newspaper ‘the Daily Mirror’.
It’s thought ‘The Island’ star Ewan was convinced he’d get typecast if he took on the role of 007.
Martin also says that he wasn’t “totally convinced” Daniel would be able to live up to previous Bonds like Pierce Brosnan or legendary Sir Sean Connery.
His view is shared by obsessive fans of the spy series, who have been blasting Daniel - despite the fact that they haven’t seen him in action as Bond yet.
'Casino Royale' hits theatres in November.
