Africa is so last year. Maybe someone should tell Madonna, who is currently in Africa scoring points for building an orphanage and possibly adopting an orphan baby. Meanwhile, supercouple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have landed in India, and their very presence has made the country the new "in" place to be seen.
And the locals know it. One was heard to observe that Brad and Ange are, in fact, as famous as Amitabh Bachchan!
The couple are in Pune where Ange is filming a movie and shopping for saris while their bodyguards pummel and strangle paparazzi and swat away tourists who get too close. Madonna just can't keep up with these two!
Ange is filming the Daniel Pearl-Marianne Pearl movie, A Mighty Heart, but in reality her own life has more drama, suspense and comedy than anything a scriptwriter could dream up. What actress in the future will be playing her in "The Angelina Jolie Story"? Hollywood, are you taking notes? Her real life is more exciting than her Tomb Raider films.
A couple of days ago, the power couple and their boy Maddox were pursued by cameramen and reporters during a 20-minute chase while seeing the city riding around in a motorised rickshaw. They managed to elude snappers on Friday, but Sunday night's outing was a media frenzy as the family was mobbed every time the rickshaw stopped.
And here's the best part: The rickshaw driver did not know who his passengers were, or why they were being hounded by cameramen on motorcyles zooming up to take pictures. When he took them back to the hotel, the driver was informed by a hotel employee: "This couple is as famous around the world as Amitabh Bachchan is in India."
Now that's pretty dang famous!
