Soul diva Whitney Houston has decided to do something about her drug addiction by getting rid of the cause of the problem: husband Bobby Brown.
Not only has she filed for divorce and done time in rehab, the singer has accepted help from Courtney Love. According to Us Weekly, Love sought to help out Houston when she saw a story in the National Enquirer that depicted "Whitney's Crack Den.”
A source for Us said, "Courtney has been there and really understands [Whitney]." The former Hole frontwoman contacted Whitney’s mentor Clive Davis and advised that he get in touch with her addiction counselor to assist in getting the R&B singer clean.
"Whitney has chosen to get well," an insider told the magazine. "She doesn't live her life in any way for [Bobby]."
Another source adds. “Getting sober has given her the clarity to move on from him. After all these years, she cleaned up and got smart. She didn’t need him and realized it.”
Earlier this month, Houston filed papers for a legal separation from Brown after she found out that he had been having a “steamy affair” with “hip-hop video vixen” Karrine Steffans, according to the upcoming Star, which reports that Brown had even moved in with his mistress.
In addition, Whitney has new goals: she will release a comeback album at the start of next year, and will perform live at the Grammys next spring.
Davis told the New York Post: “We are reviewing material right now. It is too early to say if Whitney is going to perform, but I would hope she would be in the running.”
“She looks radiant and is clearly together. She is talking enthusiastically and is articulate. We are going to make a great album. In my opinion, the best singers in the world are Aretha Franklin and Whitney. That’s not to knock Mariah Carey. Mariah is a friend of mine, but I think Mariah would even say those two are the best.”
