Rocker Pete Doherty received a surprise this morning when he learned that instead of going to jail, he is getting off with yet another slap on the wrist. A London judge told the rocker she was impressed with his songs with his recent attempts to clean up his drug problem. When will police learn that they are wasting their time even arresting Pete when the judge proves to be a fan of Babyshambles music?
The judge decided not to sentence the troubled singer to jail time for his August arrest for possessing a crack pipe and a small amount of crack cocaine, even though it follows his April arrest for possession of heroin, marijuana, and cocaine-which took place ONLY THREE HOURS after he was sentenced to two years of community service for his other drug arrests. And he's still not going to jail.
This time, his court hearing was downright bizarre as the judge took the time to compliment one of Doherty's songs, calling "The Blinding" a "good tune" and adding, "though I'm not sure about the words."
The judge said that sending him to prison would be wrong at this time as he continues rehabilitation at a London clinic. "At this stage it would be counter-productive and simply take you away from society for a matter of weeks and would undo the hard work that a lot of professionals have put in," the judge said.
She went on to defer sentencing until December 4 but asked Doherty to return to the courts in October for a review of his drug treatment order.
