Multiple men are rushing forward claiming to be the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby. Wow, that doesn't often happen to unwed mothers in real life but I guess when the golddigger is loaded with a dead billionaire hubby's fortune, exceptions can be made. Larry Birkhead, a photojournalist claims he's the father and calls the announcement by lawyer Howard K. Stern that HE's the real dad, "laughable".
In an interview with Us, Birkhead says: "I am not surprised he would say this but I am laughing at it. Larry King didn't even believe Howard. I have asked for a DNA test and I welcome it. I am in good spirits this morning because I know I am the father of the child. I look forward to having a relationship with my new daughter."
The photog met Anna Nicole a few years ago at the Kentucky Derby when Birkhead was assigned to snap photos of the former Playboy Playmate. "For about 21/2 years, our relationship was personal," Birkhead told Entertainment Tonight. Then Smith broke the news that he was to be a dad - and "everything changed", he said.
"I've been told that I was the father from Anna. She said, 'We're having a baby,' and ever since then, my life has been totally different," he said.
But the lawyer Stern says he's the dad, so the sorry drama of Anna Nicole Smith will continue in the media.
Meanwhile, toxicology reports show that Daniel Smith's death was caused by a lethal cocktail of painkiller and anti-depressants -- methadone, Zoloft and Lexapro -- which caused a cardiac dysrhythmia.
