Aerosmith front man Steve Tyler has revealed he secretly battled the potentially-fatal virus Hepatitis C three years ago.
The singer needed chemotherapy after being diagnosed with the condition, which can cause deadly liver problems.
Steve says his treatment was successful but it just “about killed” him. He also revealed he wants to raise awareness for the disease.
"Of all the people in this room, at least three have it and don't know it. It's the silent killer," he warned.
"It's one of those things people don't speak about it, but it is treatable," he added.
It is estimated that 170 million people worldwide have the Hepatitis C virus, which is carried in the blood.
The virus can be passed on if the infected person’s blood gets under the skin or into the blood stream of another person. This can happen by methods including sex, blood transfusions, or sharing needles.
Steve and Aerosmith are currently on the road with Motley Crue. Aerosmith plan to release a greatest hits package, including two new tracks, next month.
