Shakira is among the artists tipped to win big at the MTV Video Music Awards later.
The sexy Colombian songstress and rock band The Red Hot Chili Peppers are both up for seven awards each, while pop queen Madonna and newcomers Panic! at the Disco have five nominations each.
The show will be hosted by comedy king Jack Black and will be broadcasted live from New York.
Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and The Killers will all perform at the ceremony.
Nominees for the top award, video of the year, are: Dani California by The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shakira's Hips Don't Lie, Madonna's Hung Up, Ain't No Other Man by Christina Aguilera and Panic! At The Disco's I Write Sins Not Tragedies.
The awards return to New York after two years in Miami, with MTV promising "a little bit of that New York danger".
