Shakira and Red Hot Chili Peppers are the major nominees at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards with seven nominations each. Madonna and Panic! At The Disco are nominated in five categories.
Kanye West, Busta Rhymes and T.I. are all nominated in the best male video category at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and Ludacris will be performing at the event in New York on August 31.
The event will return to the city after two years in Miami, with MTV promising "a little bit of that New York danger".
Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Nick Lachey and Nelly Furtado have also received nominations.
The "soundtrack" to the event will be provided by the Raconteurs, the band led by Jack White of the White Stripes.
