Walt Disney say it will distribute a movie directed by Mel Gibson, blasting reports that the studio wanted to distance itself from the actor after his recent anti-Semitic outburst.
It is “not true” the corporation would sell the rights to ‘Apocalypto’, a spokesperson has said. However, it is believed Gibson will no longer be publicising the movie.
Gibson, who made derogatory comments about Jews during his recent arrest for drinking and driving charges, does not star in the film which he says deals with
“civilisations and what undermines them".
The movie features a cast of unknown actors and is set in an ancient settlement.
50-year-old Gibson has insisted he is not an anti-Semite and has apologies for his “harmful” remarks.
He will appear in court on September 28 to face three charges.
