Boy George showed up first thing this morning to do his court-ordered five days of picking up trash for the New York City sanitation department and, as expected, the press showed up too. They got what just what they were hoping for when the pissed off 80s icon began taunting them. "You think you're better than me?" George yelled. "Go home. Let me do my community service."
"This is supposed to be making me humble. Let me do this," he said as he continued to sweep a New York street with a broom. "I just want to do my job."
Boy George's manager, Jeremy Pearce, told reporters shortly after the former Culture Club singer arrived for his first day on the job: "He doesn't show any kind of emotion about these things. He takes it in his stride. He doesn't need to be humiliated. He's a humble person."
Because of the crowd of photographers, George was not allowed to continue and was moved to work in a gated lot belonging to the Sanitation department. "Things outside in the street were a little chaotic," said department spokesman Keith Mellis. "We'll see if there's some cleaning that can be done inside."
