Controversial director Oliver Stone hopes his new movie about the 9/11 terrorist attacks will help heal the emotional wounds left by the terrible event.
‘World Trade Center’, which hits theatres next month, tells the true story of two police officers who were rescued from the rubble of the collapsed towers.
Stone says by centering on hope and survival, rather than death and despair, he‘ll help viewers “go back to the day, forget about all your prejudices and look at it again".
"I think what might emerge is a re-examination of the feelings that day that were somehow transmuted into hatred and revenge and misunderstanding."
Nicholas Cage and Michael Pena start as the two offices who head to the WTC after hearing that a plane has struck one of the towers, and become trapped in the rubble. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Maria Bello play their wives who have to face the reality that their husbands are dead.
10% of the movie’s first five day box office takings will be donated to September 11 charities.
