Babyshambles bad boy Pete Doherty says he’s “upping the stakes” in his battle against hard drugs as his addiction is ruining his career.
The troubled rock star has also revealed he’s being tested weekly for heroin and crack use.
"Being clean means I can sit down and rediscover writing. My song-writing suffered, being on drugs," he told BBC One's Friday Night with Jonathan Ross.
Pete, who has been arrested several times for drug possession, says he’s "absolutely" trying to quit drugs.
"Being skint, drunk, paranoid, no, I don't wish that for myself. For the first time in my life I'm upping the stakes in my battle against it," he added.
He also revealed the “cleanest” he’s even been from drugs was when spent time in jail for burgling his ex-Libertines bandmate Carl Barat's home, “even though jails are riddled with drugs," he said.
