The long-running feud between Paul McCartney and John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono was set aside temporarily for the Friday premiere of Cirque du Soleil's new Beatles extravaganza "Love" at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, which has opened to rave reviews. At the gala reception, Paul and Yoko sat at the same table and shared some laughs with the other surviving Beatle Ringo Starr and George's widow, Olivia Harrison.
Following the show's performance, Fox News reports that the audience clapped wildly when McCartney actually kissed Ono on the cheek. Yoko and Paul have been embroiled in a bitter row over Beatles' song credits for three decades. Also present for the event were John’s first wife, Cynthia Lennon, their son, Julian, and the great Indian sitar maestro Ravi Shankar.
The most poignant reunion of the night was between Paul and Ringo. Paul assured his old Beatles pal that he was doing just fine following his break-up with Heather Mills. Ringo also revealed after the show: "It was emotional because the two of us aren't here. That really came home watching this."
Paul's attendance at the opening of the musical is his first pubic appearance since news of his divorce was revealed. After the performance, he took to the stage at the Siegfried and Roy Theatre and paid tribute to his deceased Beatles bandmates by exclaiming, "This is for John and George."
With the performance of "Love", this marks the first time the Beatles have allowed their music - including some previously unheard tracks - to be performed in any show. Critics worldwide have praised the extravaganza. The Daily Telegraph described the show as "ravishing and almost indecently spectacular."
