Panic! at the Disco wants their fans to appreciate their music and stop fixating on their boyish good looks. Ryan Ross is complaining that the squeals at concerts are a bother: "It's kind of disappointing and disgusting in a way, how some people are focusing on how we look. I can certainly tell the difference between one of our fans and a Fall Out Boy fan who's just there because they heard we were hot."
"I think a lot of those things we think are special — the way we dress, the things we put into our stage show — some fans don't even realize that because they're just drooling over Brendon [Urie]. I feel like it taints the music," Ryan said. "It's a bummer to realize we're in Teen Beat magazine and read some sh---y article they've written about us being an emo-punk band."
Ryan also wasn't too happy that Brandan Flowers of The Killers told the British music magazine NME that Panic are just beneficiaries of Fall Out Boy's "happy emo funnel".
"I don't understand why Brandon Flowers keeps taking shots at us," Ryan said. "Maybe he feels threatened, but he seems to be doing just fine on his own. It's pretty dumb. I mean, we're from the same town, and we've never met him. His comments don't really bother me, I'm just curious as to why he puts so much effort into talking sh--."
