Mel Gibson was arrested early Friday for investigation of driving under the influence, a Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman said. Gibson's vehicle was speeding on Pacific Coast Highway when officers stopped him at 2:36 a.m. The 50-year-old Road Warrior was taken to the Lost Hills sheriff's station where he was booked at 4:06 a.m., according to department records.
The actor and director of "The Passion of the Christ" was cited and released on bail, which was set at $5,000.
"The investigation is ongoing," a sheriiff's spokesperson said. "As we would do with anyone, we don't want to release any more since the information is fragmentary."
The mouthpiece for Mad Max said he would look into the matter.
