Hilary Swank has revealed the reason behind the breakdown of her eight-year marriage to Chad Lowe, his "substance abuse".
"When I found out it was such a shock, because I never thought he'd keep something from me," the Oscar-winning actress told Vanity Fair.
‘Million Dollar Baby’ star Swank, 31, and actor Lowe, 38, announced they were to divorce in May.
But Hilary has revealed Lowe is dealing with his addiction, saying: "I know how difficult it is, and I'm really proud of his sobriety."
She also says that her husband’s substance abuse wasn’t the only reason behind their split.
"That just kind of blew it open," she said. "It made me look at things a lot deeper.
"That's when you realise it's not going to work."
