Movies like ‘The Da Vinci Code’ and ‘X Men: The Last Stand’ have ended Hollywood’s summer slump, bringing in a surge of profits.
Film bosses feared 2006’s summer months would be another bad period for Hollywood, replicating last year’s record low ticket sales, with ‘Poseidon’ and ‘Mission Impossible III’ not meeting expectations, but recent blockbusters have dragged sales out of their recent slump.
"We started off with ‘Poseidon’ not doing as well as the studio had hoped," says The Hollywood Reporter's Gregg Goldstein.
"Then ‘Mission Impossible 3’ came out, did pretty well, but didn't really do the numbers domestically that it could have.
"So the worries were that the films after that would follow that pattern," he adds.
This trend came to an end with the successful release of ‘The Da Vinci Code’ and ‘X-Men 3’, which both performed well at the box office.
