Twenty-year-old Spanish heartthrob Rafael Nadal battled for three hours in scorching heat, wearing his trademark pirate pants and sleeveless muscle shirt, as he came back from losing the first set to defeat No. 1 Roger Federer of Switzerland, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 (4), to win his second straight French Open title. With the victory, Rafa extends his historic win streak on clay to 60-0, and sets his sights on a good showing at Wimbledon.
During the post match interview, Rafa praised Roger as one of the greatest players ever. "I can't say I'm better than him. Since I was born, I've never seen a more complete player. He's the best," he said.
"Maybe he was nervous, too. Roger was playing today for being on the top of history. This pressure is a lot, no?"
But Rafa seems to be able to handle Roger: the hunky Spaniard is now 6-1 against the world number 1 Federer over their careers. Incredibly, Roger has yet to beat Rafael in 2006, going 0-4, while he has a perfect 44-0 record against everyone else.
