Sir Sean Connery has been awarded one of Hollywood’s top honours. He’s been given the American Film Institute’s annual lifetime achievement award.
The ex-James Bond actor was applauded by ‘Star Wars’ director George Lucas and ‘Austin Powers’ star Mike Myers at the ceremony at the Kodak Theatre, Los Angeles.
Sean is the 34th actor to receive the award, following in the footsteps of Alfred Hitchcock, Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor, Sidney Poitier and Clint Eastwood.
The ‘Indiana Jones’ star told the audience: "I got my big break when I was five years old, and it's taken more than 70 years to realise it.”
"At five I learned to read, and I would not be standing here without the books, plays and scripts."
Before the ceremony, George Lucas described Sean as "extremely professional" and "very talented".
The award is the American Film Institute’s highest honour for a career in film.
