Catherine Zeta Jones and husband Michael Douglas have opened the first phase of a Children’s Hospital in Wales.
The ‘Zorro’ actress and ‘Basic Instinct’ actor unveiled a plaque and toured hospital wards in Cardiff to speak to patients.
Catherine, who is a patron of the Noah’s Ark Appeal - which was set up to raise money for the hospital, said she was “very proud” that cash raised would contribute to the next phase of the £21m unit.
"This is just the beginning stages,” Catherine said.
"We have a lot more work to do and more campaigning to do and I'm just very proud that we now have our designated children's hospital in Wales - there are children who can have the best treatment and care, and it makes me very proud."
Songstress Charlotte Church and cricket star Ian Botham joined Catherine for a charity walk to raise funds for the hospital back in 2002. Last year, Jones and Douglas donated a five-figure sum to the Noah’s Ark Appeal.
It is the first Welsh hospital to specialised in treating sick children.
"We are grateful to everyone who has supported the development from the start and are delighted that Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas have both taken the time to visit the wards today and meet the patients, their families and staff," a spokesperson for the hospital said.
"Today's visit by Catherine and Michael to open phase one of the Children's Hospital will also focus our attention on getting on with phase two," another spokesperson added.
