Lawyers for the city of Los Angeles have accused the family of murdered rap legend Notorious B.I.G of going to “absurd” and “odious” lengths to "extract hundreds of millions of dollars" from the city.
They made the comments in papers filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week.
It comes just a week after the Notorious B.IG, whose real name was Christopher Wallace, accused the city of deceiving the court during 2005’s wrongful death trial to cover-up information about police involvement in the rapper‘s murder nine years ago.
The Wallace family sued the city back in 2002, arguing that LAPD officers were linked to the murder.
When the case went to trial last year, the judge declared a mistrial after the Wallace family’s lawyer received an anonymous tip-off that the LAPD was withholding evidence to link two policemen to the crime.
It’s believed that former police officer Rafael Perez had spoken about Biggie’s killing to an informant in jail.
For deliberately covering up important documents, Los Angeles was forced to pay Biggie’s family $1.1 million towards its legal costs.
