Is Mi3 director, J.J. Abrams seriously considering casting Matt Damon as a young Captain Kirk in the upcoming 'Star Trek' movie? An insider said that William Shatner himself has given his thumbs up to the idea. "Shatner gave his blessings. J.J. got his approval," the insider said. Which begs the question to Trekkies, isn't Damon already looking too old to be beamed up to play a young space cadet?
According to Variety, the proposed 11th Trek will focus on the early days of James T. Kirk and the vulcan Spock, including their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and their first mission in space. The movie won't be released until 2008.
Damon looks and acts like wooden Howdy Doody not the handsome Shatner who was at the height of his physical beauty when he was 35 and playing Kirk.
My personal pick for the young captain -- Jensen Ackles, at least he's the right age and has the shmarmy charm that Shatnerisms require. After all, you don't need to cast the character of Kirk in the prequel, per se, you need a wicked and fun Shatner impersonator.
