Jay-Z has accused the makers of Cristal champagne of being racist, and plans to boycott the drink.
Cristal’s Frederic Rouzaud made the controversial comments in an interview recently. When asked whether he thought the brand’s reputation was being damaged by its association with hip hop, he said: "That's a good question, but what can we do? We can't forbid people from buying it. I'm sure Dom Perignon or Krug would be delighted to have their business."
This pissed off Jay-Z- who, along with 50 Cent, Kanye West, Biggie and Mos Def, have all named checked the brand in their tracks and brought given it tons of free advertising - who says he will pull the product from his chain of venues.
"It has come to my attention that the managing director of Cristal views the 'hip hop' culture as unwelcome attention. I view his comments as racist and will no longer support any of his products through any of my various brands, including The 40/40 Club, nor in my personal life," Jigga said in a statement.
