Kelsey Grammer's canine sidekick, Eddie, on television show ‘Fraiser’ has died aged 16 and a half, his trainer has revealed.
The Jack Russell terrier, whose real name was Moose, starred on the show for 10 years and was even dubbed the ‘Lassie of the ‘90s’.
"He just had an incredible charisma and was such a free spirit," Mathilde Halberg said.
Moose, who took fifth place on ‘Animal Planet’s 50 Greatest TV Animals list, also had a role in the movie ‘My Dog Skip’ and graced the covers of Life, TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly. He even ‘penned’ (or should that be pawed?) an autobiography.
Before being a TV star, Moose didn’t have the best start in life. His first family couldn’t cope with the pup’s destructive ways, barking and refusal to be house-trained.
"I saved him from the pound. His owners called me as a last resort," Halberg told People. "He was extremely mischievous, always escaping, chewing up things and running off."
But after six months of training, Moose’s behaviour was completely turned around and he won the role in ‘Fraiser‘.
"Moose had a great disposition for training," Halberg said in a 1994. "He loved it right away...it calmed him down a little. It’s as if all of a sudden he had a purpose in his life."
When he was 10, Moose retired from Hollywood.
