Since a New York judge has refused to allow Boy George to work with HIV/AIDS charities as his community service commitment, the singer will likely end up picking up trash in Central Park or something else just as lowly and demeaning - and public - where stalkerazzi can record every moment. George was trying to sound upbeat though, when he walked out of the community service office and quipped, "I'm going to be teaching basketball in Harlem."
Boy George has been in heaps of trouble following his arrest for cocaine possession and filing a false police report - and missing an earlier hearing. But celebrity usually pays off and the British singer got off with a mild fine and sentence.
The warrant for George's arrest was vacated and the judge told the former Culture Club singer he will let him stay out of jail if he complies with the terms of the agreement. Under his plea deal, George was to enter a drug program in England, perform 5 days of community service in Manhattan, plus pay a $1,000 fine and and avoid being arrested for any reason during the next six months.
But the singer wasn't thrilled about doing the community service part which the judge gave him until August 28 to complete. George's lawyer said the singer was hoping to do the community service on five consecutive days so that he could make scheduled appearances in Europe. "He's already been threatened with lawsuits if he doesn't show," the laywer said.
