‘Superman Returns’ can rescue Hollywood this Summer by boosting movie revenues, executives are hoping.
They’re hoping the cat-suited superhero will be able to pull summer ticket figures, which are much lower than in recent years, out of their current slump.
"If we want the numbers to come out better than last year's performance, we need to be kicked into high gear," one boss says and it’s believed ‘Superman Returns’, which has received great early reviews, could be the movie to do this.
Around 40% of box office revenues in the US are taken during the summer period but audiences have dropped each year since 2002.
‘Superman’, which cost more than $200 million to make and stars Brandon Routh, opens in the US on June 28.
Anther summer movie expected to do well are ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’, which its theatres on July 7.
Plus ‘Miami Vice‘, ‘Lady in the Water’ and ‘Snakes on a Plane’ are still to open.
