Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Scarlett Johannson and Pink are among the stars fighting it out to win the lead role in a new Janis Joplin biopic.
The movie, called "The Gospel According To Janis", will focus on the story of the 1960s blues singer who was famed for her outrageous performances.
Its director, Penelope Spheeris, has already discussed the part with Pink and Lindsay and still wants to speak with Scarlett.
She says Pink is her “first choice”, but another actress may have to tale the lead as the “Stupid Girls” singer “may have scheduling conflicts."
"She would do just about anything to be part of that project!" Pink’s agent has revealed.
Penelope says “music ability is important” (well, that rules Britney out) and “the actress must have the spirit of Janis”.
"Each of the actresses who has expressed interest in the role (would) bring her own special talents to the part," she added.
The movie will battle with another Janis Joplin movie, "Pieces Of My Heart", which stars Renee Zellweger.

I think a fresh face would be better.Too many times Hollywood thinks the present-day hot singer would be good,but that's not always a good idea.Singing talent doesn't always equate easy-stepping-into-Musical Biopic roles. Doing Janis justice would be someone who could actually sound like Janis's uniquely scratchy voice.

hey janis was a wild child and it would take a wild child child to play her. I think that pink is that person. she has lived the life and undserstands the person. With a little studying and a bottle of southern comfort in hand, she has the raspy voice and all to pull it off. I was in a group that opened for janis in jacksonville a long time ago and i got a chance to meet her and man she was wired to the max when i met her but she could sing the blues and made you believe every word she sang was from her heart and soul. Janis we miss you

None of the youngsters listed so far has near the emotional range it would take to play Janis Joplin. Sorry kids...check out "The Rose" with Bette Midler in "Joplinesque" role. Then try and convince me that any of these pop-icon-of-the-moment girls could deliver the raw "Rock and Roll" essence that was is Janis Joplin. if they pick any of these girls (with, maybe the exception of Joss Stone) they'll do more damage to any future film projects for themselves - (e.g. Madonna as "Evita")
My pick? Melissa Etheridge!!! If not her or Joss, I wouldn't even rent the DVD.
