You can always rely on Nicole Richie to be different. Even the reasons she blames her junkie past on are, well, weird.
The "Simple Life" says her happy childhood was to blame. If you have to be adopted into a family, you could do a lot worse than being taken in by loaded superstar and his wife, but Nicole says being spoilt by her adoptive father Lionel Richie pushed her over the edge.
“I had a pretty fun childhood, but I just wanted to feel nothing,” she has confessed to Tatler magazine.
“It wasn't that it was horrible and I wanted to feel better. I just didn't want to feel anything.
“Doing drugs kind of made me just forget and not feel anything, for a second. I think it's a combination of things. Partly just me wanting to be older. It's what the older kids were doing at the time.”
But surely being a rich kid in Hollywood with easy access to drugs must have had something to do with her experimentation? She doesn’t think so.
“I could easily say yes it was, but people also have drug problems in Kansas.
“So I don't know whether, if I had lived somewhere else, it would have been a problem. I'd say it probably would have been, not matter where I grew up."
