Teeny-bop singer-turned-actress JoJo seems like she's been around forever even though she's only 15. Her first big screen film "Aquamarine" opens today March 3.
In the film, she plays Hailey, a tomboy who is about to move to Australia, away from her best friend Claire, played by Emma Roberts. The two girls discover a mermaid named Aquamarine (Sara Paxton) flopping around and trapped in a club house swimming pool. It seems Aqua has run away from her pop, a sea god who wants her to marry a "mer-man" she doesn't love. The gist of this family movie is, that if the girls can help the genie-like mermaid find true love, she'll grant them their fondest wish of staying together.
"I tried to make my character Hailey different from who I am. I'm not shy and she was kind of uncomfortable with herself; she covered up with baggy clothes," says JoJo, whose real name is Joanna Levesque.
She told zap2it.com, "This was a year ago that I shot it, so first of all, I was 10 or 15 pounds heavier. I had no make-up on. I was wearing very ill-fitting clothing and I was watching myself with my hands over my eyes ... I was like, 'Dude, I need to look cute in my next movie.'"
JoJo's young music fans will be surprised to learn she doesn't sing in the film. "It was a conscious decision. I don't want you to think it's because I think I'm too good, because I'm so not too good," she says.
"I wanted to just keep my acting and singing separate. That's why I chose not to play a singer in films or sing in films. In acting I'm going by Joanna 'JoJo' Levesque. In singing, just JoJo."

I thought the film was fantastic. My mom cried when she heard Jo Jo sing at the end. The film helped me get through alot, emotionally and physically, Emma Roberts, I think you are amazing you are my roe model.

I took my three daughters to see the film, we came out of the movie theatre with great big smiles across our faces! Good job girls, Jo Jo and Emma have done a wonderful job. Thank you for giving my family a thrilling 2 hours!
